Great Room Addition

South of New Paltz is the 1811 Federal Style brick home built for one of the original Hugenot families that settled New Paltz in the 18th Century. The owner wished to have a Large Great Room added and asked us to design it so as to enhance the original home. Our solution was to creat a long ell in the form of a carriage house. We made the gable end of the house of solid stone laid in the same manner as the antique Hugenot homes found in New Paltz. This wall contains a huge walk in fireplace on the interior which is the focal point of the Great Room. We built a new set of kitchen cabinets into the room in the manner of an 18th Century tavern bar and restored the original Kitchen to its historic detail, which had no built in cabinets, but has its original cooking fireplace and hearth with the original brick, stone, and ironwork.
